450S GP Cuba 1958

1958

The Cuban Grand Prix took place from the end of the 1950s until 1960 and the most striking event of which was the kidnapping of the world champion Juan Manuel Fangio in 1958 by the revolutionaries the day before the event.
The Cuban government ordered the event to continue, so Maserati asked French driver Maurice Trintignant to drive Fangio's Maserati 450S.

Stirling Moss and Masten Gregory were leading the race until the sixth lap when Armando García Cifuentes’s Ferrari left the track and knocked over 100 spectators, killing six and seriously injuring 30. The red flag was not raised in complete confusion. The classification of the race is that of lap 5 and Trintignant will finish 11th for his first experience on this car.
