Tipo 420M/59 Eldorado

1959

In 1958, Maserati entered a car at the 500 Monza Miles under the colors of the ice cream maker "Eldorado": the famous 420 M-58 Eldorado, the first sponsored car in history ...

Placed on a tubular chassis inspired by the 250F Lightweight with improved suspensions for this race, the car accommodates the V8 of the 450S reduced to 4.2l of displacement but strong of 410HP and equipped with a 2-speed gearbox only!

The nature of this "anti-clockwise" oval race causes Maserati to shift the engine 90mm to the left of the car's axle, and the driver to the right.

Stirling Moss will drive this monster in seventh place in the final classification, after going off the track at 260 km / h in the third run.
R.Liguori tried to qualify her for the Indianapolis 500 in 1959, without success.
