Tipo 124 2+2

1974

The Tipo 124, also called Coupé 2+2, was presented by Ital Design Giugiaro at the 1974 Turin Motor Show simultaneously with the Medici limousine, both in the same bright green dress.

Based on the chassis-running gear-engine of the Indy 4.9, the technical characteristics are identical: 4.9-litre V8, 335 hp and 280 km/h at maximum speed.

A 4-seater concept car intended to be close to possible series production (unlike the Boomerang presented 2 years earlier), the "wedge design" treatment of the exterior did not appeal because it was considered too unbalanced between the very flat front and the rear too close to the Lotus esprit three years older than it.

Maserati did not follow up, neither the Medici nor this 2+2 coupé now owned by the Panini museum.
